Repeated negotiations with manufacturers to no avail
According to Zhang Qiang, his car was bought from the local FAW Pentium 4S store in Tangshan in January 2017. Oil leakage in the engine was discovered in April of that year. At that time, Zhang Qiang thought it was the 4S shop staff who accidentally spilled the oil during the refueling process, so he wiped it off. What he didn't expect was that after driving for a while, he found that a large area of oil stains appeared in the place where the oil leaked last time. .
"After discovering that the engine was leaking oil again, I drove the car to a 4S shop for inspection. At that time, the sales and maintenance staff suggested to dismantle the engine for inspection. Considering that it was a new car, I didn’t agree, and I simply applied glue to the leaking area. Zhang Qiang told reporters that a year later, he found that the place where the glue was leaking was getting worse, so he asked the FAW Bestune manufacturer for help.
However, the attitude of FAW Bestune's customer service made Zhang Qiang angry. "You go to the 4S store for after-sales, and we don't care about the others." After receiving such a response from the manufacturer's customer service, Zhang Qiang said helplessly that he would never buy a FAW Pentium car again. After that, Zhang Qiang made several calls to the after-sales customer service of the FAW Bestune manufacturer, and the responses he got were almost the same sentence: go to the 4S shop.
The reporter learned that the “gluing” mentioned by Zhang Qiang is actually a common repair measure to deal with engine oil leakage, that is, to apply sealant at the oil seepage. However, according to Zhang Qiang, the treatment method of applying sealant treats the symptoms but not the root cause. Although it can prevent oil leakage in a short period of time, oil leakage will occur again after the car has been driven for a few months.
Nowadays, on car complaint websites, forums and other platforms, more and more Pentium B50 owners, like Zhang Qiang, silently endure the troubles of engine oil leakage. "It's useless to reflect to the manufacturer. I still don't repair it. I hope it won't hurt the engine." said a Pentium B50 owner in Shangrao, Jiangxi.
An automobile repairer analyzed to reporters, “The engine oil leakage is a dirty spot on the surface, but it will still damage the engine if it continues for a long time.”
After repeated negotiations with the manufacturer's customer service to no avail, Zhang Qiang, in desperation, chose to go to another FAW Pentium 4S store to try his luck. The maintenance staff of the FAW Bestune 4S shop said that the repair cannot be guaranteed after the repair, and the leakage may be even worse.
Many models of Pentium have been recalled

The reporter learned that in the past year, most of the models of FAW Pentium have experienced recalls. According to information on the website of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, FAW Cars recalled a total of about 119,500 Pentium X40s in May and September last year due to abnormal flameouts and fuel leakage risks; then in November, FAW Cars launched a larger scale. Due to fuel pump parts, about 150,300 Pentium B70, Pentium X80, and Pentium B90 models were recalled.
Judging from the models displayed on FAW Bestune’s official website, FAW Bestune currently has seven models: X40, T77, X80, B30, B50, B70 and B90. There were four models that were recalled last year.
A large area of quality problems has dragged down the sales of FAW Bestune's products. According to data from the Travel Federation, in January this year, the sales of B30, B50, B70, B90 and X80 were in single digits. The sales of X40 were 700 and the sales of T77 were 7,686.
The frequent quality problems of Pentium’s vehicles have greatly reduced the impression of Pentium owners. The reporter randomly launched a small survey on "Will you choose a Pentium next car?" in a "FAW Pentium B50 National QQ Group". Most car owners answered: "No."
